Six months after Gendarmerie General Francois Rodin Rakoto announced an investigation into allegations of excessive force used against student leader Jean Pierre, we are eagerly awaiting the release of the investigation into the incident, as well as the steps that will be taken by the security forces to ensure such events are not repeated in the future. At the time, we welcomed the pledge for a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter; such a step is important for a democracy such as Madagascar, to demonstrate the rule of law and ultimate accountability of the authorities to the people.

Six mois après la déclaration du Commandant de la gendarmerie, le Général Rakoto François Rodin, sur l’ouverture d’une enquête sur la violence excessive faite au leader de mouvement estudiantin Jean Pierre Randriamboarina, nous continuons à attendre les résultats de l’investigation sur cet incident ainsi que les étapes accomplies par les forces de l’ordre pour s’assurer qu’un tel événement ne se reproduit dans le futur. A l’époque, nous avons bien accueilli la promesse d’une enquête approfondie et transparente, une telle démarche est importante pour une démocratie comme Madagascar afin de prouver le respect de l’Etat de droit et de la redevabilité des autorités vis-à -vis des citoyens.
